Longwood University - The Colonnades

Building Construction

Project Details

This project consisted of constructing The Colonnades in front of Tabb Hall at Longwood University, focusing on both architectural excellence and historical preservation. The Colonnades, a prominent architectural feature on campus, serve as a visually striking backdrop and are often associated with formal events and ceremonies. Site preparation included demolition and grading, followed by excavation and the pouring of reinforced concrete foundations to support the structure. The columns were fabricated using high-quality materials to reflect the university's historic aesthetic, with attention to detail in the design of the capitals and bases. Structural reinforcement was integrated to ensure long-term stability and safety. Surrounding The Colonnades, walkways and plazas were constructed, along with landscaping to enhance the beauty of the area. The project also included outdoor lighting to illuminate the space for events and gatherings. After completion, the project underwent final inspections and touch-ups, with a long-term maintenance plan established to preserve this iconic feature, which remains a key part of Longwood's tradition and campus atmosphere.

Construction had begun the summer of 2018 and completed in August of 2020.
