Buckingham County Library & Community Center

Renovation

Project Details

In Association with Thompson & Litton Architects.

In 2020, the Buckingham County Library & Community Center project transformed the former Dillwyn Elementary School into a thriving community space.

Now a 33,000-square-foot hub for the community, the library features dedicated areas for children, teens, and adults, including a space for local history and genealogy research. The design incorporates locally sourced materials, including hardwoods, slate, and cyanate, to reflect Buckingham County’s character. The community center includes classrooms, meeting rooms, offices, a multipurpose room, and a catering kitchen—offering flexible spaces for events, gatherings, and public use.

This project gave new life to a former school building, blending its history with modern features to serve the needs of Buckingham County for years to come.
